Violin, Mittenwald c.1890 (Amati model)

Violin, Mittenwald c.1890 (Amati model)

This violin has a clear, strong and resonant sound. The tones are lovely and sweet, especially in the upper registers.

The spruce top shows a medium, evenly spaced grain. The two-piece maple back on this instrument is highly flamed with a wonderful, deep curl with matching ribs and scroll. It has been vanished a medium brown on a pale ground that shows the wonderful patina of age.

Mittenwald is a small town in Bavaria and has been one of the centres of German violin making since the mid 17th century. This elegant violin was made there some time in the 1890s. It is inspired by the Amati style of violins.

This will suit up to an advanced or tertiary level student.

Length of back: 358mm
