Violin from the Glaesel Workshop, Germany c. 1920 (Maggini copy)
The voice on this violin in strong and resonant. It speaks easily with some warmth on the G string. It has great soloistic qualities.
The varnish on this violin is a lovely golden brown with top coat of lighter brown.
Ludwig Glaesel II, was born in 1872 in Markneukirchen. He was trained early in his life as a luthier by his father before starting work at the age of 16 for the Grimm workshop in Berlin. In 1899 he opened his own workshop in Berlin-Charlottenburg quickly becoming famous for his fine and reliable work, producing many excellent instruments in the German style in the 20th century.
